JOANNE DUNGLISON
Dunlirri Designs
Hi,
I'm Joanne Dunglison!
I've had a passion to create from an early age. Mostly self-taught, I worked mainly with pastels and pencils on paper. I had wanted to learn to sew and tried to teach myself; luckily I joined a local quilting group, Vision Patchworkers, in 1996 and then spent the next 10 years watching and learning. I discovered Art Quilting. Yay! I could combine both skills and "paint" with the fabric instead.

In 2005, I entered my first show. Most recently, I have started to teach and have realised that I love to share, especially the importance of "Tonal Value". I love doing fabric challenges and thinking outside the box, playing with dyes and combining textural media like beads and felting in my work. But I still love creating portraits of people and animals; they create a window into the heart and soul. My inspirations are the friends that surround me and the unique beauty of this country.
A Little About Me
I grew up in Western Australia's wheatbelt and goldfields region and twice in the U.K. I moved to QLD in 1989.
I had to retire as a Laboratory Technician in the Mining/Environmental industry in 1996, as I was diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis & R.A. Quilting became my therapy as I had to give up my job, horse riding, and other activities. Quilting became a lifeline of positivity and accomplishments, and it's given me so many wonderful friendships.

My family, especially Hubby and daughter, are my constant supporters and the love and encouragement they give me is insurmountable.
I'm based in Beautiful Brisbane. I'm a member of Queensland Quilters Inc. The Queensland Quilter's Art Quilt Group (2QAQ) and Vision Patchworkers, Ipswich QLD
